Transformational Leadership

There are more research and books on leadership than ever. However you don’t have to look far in the popular media, research literature, or in real life to find examples of poor leadership. People are frustrated, cynical, and pessimistic about leadership at the workplace. Their loyalty to organizations, and organizational loyalty to them, are both decreasing. In such a climate, how can a leader possibly mobilize a seemingly unwilling constituency?

Thankfully there are stories about positive leadership on the other
end of the spectrum, embedded in moments of crisis and in the
routines and rhythms of everyday organizational life. The IDG leadership development programs are designed based on decades of research on Transformational Leadership, leadership that enables followers to achieve greater levels of well-being and job effectiveness over the long run.

The organizational effectiveness of transformational leadership has been empirically proven. Studies have consistently demonstrated its effectiveness in diverse situations, ranging from profit-oriented organizations, trade unions, sports teams, educational contexts, self-managed teams, to military organizations.

Transformational leadership comprises four dimensions: idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individualized consideration. (Bass, 1985, 1988) All four dimensions contribute to enhanced individual well-being which in turn leads to elevated performance.
